Masayoshi Nakajo: IN & OUT
The catalogue of “In & Out: Masayoshi Nakajo”is designed by the famous Chinese designer Guang Yu and it won the gold prize of GDA awards. “The cover page of the tin foil paper uses the colours of golden and silver alternatedly, and it carries the smell of our times which is both bold and direct—with its quality of fragile, cheap, coarse and forthright. Masayoshi Nakajo loves smoking and tinfoil associates with cigarettes; So you feel like openning the cigarette pack once you unfold the book, and when you flip through, Masayoshi is like just standing in front of you, smoking and grumbling about getting up early in the morning.” This is Guang Yu’s association of the Masayoshi Nakajo, which is also the concept of designing this catalogue.
This book collects articles of “Let alcohol and nicotine dance, let the rational sleep” by PSA’s curator Gong Yan,the “The young boy N” and “Hanatsubaki and Masayoshi Nakajo”by Nakajo, as well as the lecture memorandum during the exhibition of “Masayoshi Nakajo 000 show”. In a random order, the Stapler-binding book presents dozens of graphic designs over Nakajo’s career of 50 years in a both fierce and delicate way, from his earlier works of “Fuji no yamai”, to the calendar design and his recent design of “Mother and Other”poster. Just as Nakajo’s art, this publication guides the readers to a both innocent and wonderful world.
