Mount Huang
Miao Miao is an artist sensitive to the use of materials and images. When asked if Mount Huang could be considered a visual diary, Miao Miao replied: "As a final result, one can call it a visual diary, but for me, to be more accurate, it represents the most significant approach to the state of my painting. I want to carry a sketchbook with me and doodle as I travel. I don’t want to miss anything that I might want to paint. It’s like an obsession with gathering, because I’m never sure I can fully capture it—it’s way too abundant."
Mount Huang is the result of a trip in early summer 2021. While many people were still suffering from the pandemic, it was an opportunity to visit this iconic mountain without it being overrun by tourists. The mountain carries so much imagination because of its miraculous nature. Whether it’s the rocks, the trees, or the wind and the mist that follows the topography, everything aligns with historical and national aesthetics. But, as with anything that has been described too many times, the descriptions have become mere remnants of themselves, like a plastic skin that has stiffened on the surface.
The inspirations endowed by the mountain, on paper, are merely seeds. They grow in time and space, but they are far from being concluded.
