A mini zine (commonly known as Mamehon in Japan and Dòu Běn in China) is a palm-sized, flash-fictional, handmade artist book. Northing started its collaboration with the Chinese risograph studio and art book store Bananafish in 2019 to curate Norwegian mini zines. Although the final product is small, it is one of Northing’s biggest collaborations, involving one hundred Norwegian artists, designers, and illustrators. The Norwegian mini zine boxes contain 12 mini zines each by 12 different Norwegian artists or artists based in Norway, including some household names such as Anne Fiske, the Kanstad Johnsen sisters, and Øyvind Torseter, as well as many young talents. This format is intriguing and accessible, encouraging contributions while providing enough space and freedom for raw creativity. All 100 Norwegian mini zines were exhibited at Grafill (Norwegian Organisation for Visual Communication) R21 in Oslo.
